Legendary Sherlock Holms of Conan Doyle fame,is this a miscast film? Robert Downy Jnr. and Jude Law? Hollywood style, all effects with little in common with the original feel of Conan Doyle’s vision of Holms. The old classic Holms films featuring the likes of Basil Rathbone and the more recent series starring Jeremy Brett are much more nearer to how Holms should be portrayed, but the passage of time has not eluded the imagination on reading Conan Doyle’s novels, most noteably ‘The Hound of The Baskervilles’,atmospheric and dark partly due the story’s location-Dartmoor and in that the legend of a giant dog still persists on parts of the moors up to the present day. It may be that CD got his inspiration for the book from an actual legend in which the local squire (long dead and buried in Buckfastleigh Churchyard)takes to roaming the moor with a pack of hell hounds hunting for unfortunate souls who wonder onto the treacherous moor at night,
just one of many tales about huge hounds or packs of hell hounds associated with Dartmoor, all plus more local legends can be found @
